During the Spring semester's Reel Green Film Festival, SALDF will host a screening of Tribe of Heart's"Peaceable Kingdom," a moving documentary about the plight of farmed animals. The film will be at 6:30PM on Thursday March 10, in the Law Lounge.
Ms. Fellner, the US Program Director for Human Rights Watch, will discuss the new HRW report "Blood, Sweat, and Fear: Workers' Rights in US Meat and Poultry Plants." The report details the physical and emotional injuries, as well as the labor violations and union busting, prevalent at America's slaughterhouses. This event is co-sponsored by the Stanford International Human Rights Law Association and the National Lawyers Guild. The talk will be Monday, April 18, from 12:30-2:00, room TBA.
April 18, "Animals- Properties or Persons?," A Talk by Gary Francione
Also on April 18: Gary Francione, one of the biggest names in animal law, will be at Stanford to talk to the Environmental Law Workshop. His presentation, "Animals- Properties or Persons?," will be open to the public. His talk will be from 3:45-5:25 in room 271.
April 25, "Animal Rights, One Step at a Time," A Talk by Steven Wise
April 25: Steven Wise, one of the OTHER biggest names in animal law and author of Rattling the Cage, will also be at Stanford to talk to the Environmental Law Workshop. His presentation, "Animal Rights, One Step at a Time," will be open to the public. His talk will be from 3:45-5:25 in room 271. We are also trying to arrange a screening of "A Legal Person," a documentary on the work of Steve Wise.

Professor Steven Best, Chair of Philosophy at the University of Texas at El Paso and a founder of the Center on Animal Liberation Affairs, was brought to the Bay Area by SALDF for three lectures: At Stanford Law School: "Terrorists or Freedom Fighters? Animal Liberation, Domestic Terrorism, and the PATRIOT Act," co-sponsored by the National Lawyers Guild; at Stanford University: "Animal Rights and the New Enlightenment," co-sponsored by Animal Rights on the Farm (ARF!), the Stanford undergraduate animal rights group; and at Bound Together Book Collective: "The Ethics of the Animal Liberation Front."
Panel Discussion: "Exploring Animal Rights: Ethics and Strategy," coordinated by SALDF's Matthew Liebman and ARF's Claire Wagenseil, featuring Dr. Elliot Katz, founder and President of In Defense of Animals; Christine Garcia, attorney at The Animal Law Office; Rabbi Mychal Copeland, Rabbi at Stanford University Hillel; and Aaron Frank, President of the California Wildlife Center.
Carter Dillard, staff attorney at Compassion Over Killing, gave a talk entitled "False Advertising, Animals, and Ethical Consumption," in which he discussed the use of false advertising by animal exploitation industries to misrepresent animal welfare conditions.
